The Wine Company Dempsey

The Wine Company has been pouring at Dempsey Hill since 2003, in a colonial-era former army barracks at Block 8 with a shaded verandah and greenery all around. It grew out of a small wine import business and still doubles as a shop for bottles and gifts.

The list runs to more than 300 wines from over 50 wineries, with a long-standing emphasis on South Africa, including producers such as Simonsig, Cederberg and Alvi's Drift, alongside European bottles. Wines come by the glass, carafe or bottle at friendly prices, and the team runs regular masterclasses and a membership scheme.

The kitchen pairs wine with local favourites and bar plates, from lunch through dinner. It suits relaxed afternoons in Dempsey, casual groups and anyone curious about South African wine.
