Fool is the wine bar from chef Rishi Naleendra's group, a short walk from sister restaurant Cloudstreet, and holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand. The room has a 1970s retro feel, with terrazzo floors, curved banquettes, colourful art and a serious sound system.
The list runs to more than 300 wines, from approachable classics to rare bottles, with natural, Champagne, Burgundy, orange and volcanic sections and a slight lean towards older vintages. Each dish on the menu carries a suggested wine pairing.
Small plates are precise and punchy, such as the chicken liver éclair with date and Madeira, with a Feed Me menu and weekday set lunches on Thursday and Friday. It suits date nights and wine-curious diners who like a lively room.
Small bars fill up fast on Friday and Saturday nights. Book ahead where you can.
