UP KL is a minimalist upstairs wine bar on The Row, the restored shophouse strip on Jalan Doraisamy. The list centres on natural wines from producers around the world, with cocktails also available.

The kitchen draws on Turkish and Mediterranean cooking: mezze and tapas such as Ottoman kebabs with eggplant and cheese, thin-crust flatbread with minced beef, borek cheese rolls, beef manti with yoghurt, garlic prawns and grilled padrón peppers. Weekends bring live jazz and violin.

It suits a late dinner of shared plates and a bottle in the Chow Kit area.

Small bars fill up fast on Friday and Saturday nights. Book ahead where you can.
