James Suckling Wine Central is the Hong Kong wine bar created by wine critic James Suckling and Marie Suckling, now in a compact ground-floor shop on Shin Hing Street in Central. The wines come from James's own cellar and from producers he has followed for decades, and the by-the-glass list (a Star Wine List Best By the Glass finalist in 2025) mixes Champagne, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Italy and the New World, with each wine shown alongside its Suckling score.
The kitchen serves a short menu built around wine: olives, octopus crudo, beef tartare, crab tacos, cheese and charcuterie with brioche, beef cheek, crispy yellow chicken and a wagyu ribeye. A 10% service charge applies.
It suits drinkers who want to work through serious bottles by the glass in an intimate, relaxed room.
Small bars fill up fast on Friday and Saturday nights. Book ahead where you can.
